Volunteers support the Yukon Arctic Ultra. Early in February, they come from all over the world and create a warm ambiance like no other.

The 300-mile course – Whitehorse to Pelly Crossing with an additional loop through Pelly Farm – is rugged, isolated, beautiful. It includes many stints on the majestic and frozen Yukon River. Stepping up from 135 miles to 300 brings new challenges I had to learn on the job. An excess of enthusiasm led to injury at mile 32. KT tape and lots of ultra training kept the ship together for the remaining 268 miles. It took me six days and five nights to get it done.
